Gakhar Plaza collapses in Pindi; deaths feared

RAWALPINDI: Many casualties feared as Rawalpindi’s Ghakhar Plaza which caught fire last night demolished here Saturday noon, reported ARY OneWorld.

Fire had broken out in six-story commercial center in downtown metropolis late night Friday, gutting almost ninety percent of the shops, near 400 in numbers.

On Saturday noon, more than half of the six-story commercial plaza caved in completely when firefighters and personnel of other relief agencies were busy in extinguishing fire, that could not be controlled despite hours of efforts.

Some 40 people were trapped in the building, while rescue activities were underway to evacuate them from the debris.

Firefighters had already been warned of the incident keeping the dangerous condition of the building. The other part of the building might also be collapsed, reported ARY OneWorld.
